Buying a Laptop
There are a few key attributes of a laptop computer that the College of Business requires in order to maximize its effective use and support. Those items are processor speed, amount of memory, hard drive space, warranty maintenance, networking capability, backup & CD and the Operating System.
IMPORTANT: due to the number of business and statistical software programs used in the Business School that are incompatible with VISTA, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you purchase a laptop with Windows XP Pro or refrain from upgrading your current computer until VISTA compatible software versions are available. Compatible versions of these products should be available sometime in 2008. XP systems can be purchased through the UT Computer Store. Please do not confuse the operating system with Microsoft Office programs. If you must purchase a computer with VISTA it must be VISTA Business (other versions of VISTA will not work with the UTK computing environment).
