3. Goals of the podium training

The primary goals of the podium training are to create comfort and competency with the podium technology in the HBB.

3.1 Comfort with the podium technology will include:

Helping faculty members become comfortable teaching in the HBB classrooms using their current teaching modes. Minimizing classroom problems that are caused by lack understanding of the HBB podium technology. Minimizing podium startup problems caused by instructors leaving the podium in unfamiliar states (see section 5).

3.2 Competency with the podium technology will include:

Encouraging new technology-enhanced methods that are superior to those in non-technology enhanced classrooms. Encouraging examples of success and best practices in “teaching with technology” that can be shared with other faculty members. 3.3 The above goals should create better student classroom experiences and improved teaching evaluations.

4. Startup

4.1 Startup from the systems-off state.

In the system-off state, the podium shows the AV Quick Start Menu bar.

4.11 To startup using the podium PC, laptop, or document camera, press the AV Quick Start Button:

The screen lowers, the projectors starts up, and the audio system starts up.

4.12 To startup using only a microphone with no projector, press the Audio Only button:

The audio system starts, but projectors do not start up and the screen does not lower. Selecting the audio only button allows instructors to test microphones and the audio system.

4.2 Startup from the systems-on state.

In the system-on state, the podium shows the Sources Menu bar.

To startup just select a source: Select the PC button to use the podium PC. Press the Laptop button to select the Laptop as a source.  Select the IPod/Aux button to select IPod/Aux as a source. Select Doc Cam to select the overhead document camera as a source.
