Instructions for PROMBA Computer Setup

The following steps will guide you through configuring your Windows laptop and installing the required software for use in the Professional MBA program. Each step is required unless otherwise noted.  Please click here for setup instructions if you have a Macintosh.

If you are using a company-owned laptop, please contact your IT group to discuss the changes that will be made to your computer for the PROMBA program before you begin the setup process. They may want to do the setup for you. Please advise them that the user account you will utilize on the laptop must have administrative rights so that we can connect you to the UT network. They may contact us by email at cbahelp@utk.edu if they need further information.

Configuring your Computer  (All instructions below are Adobe PDF files. Skip to Step 10 if you do not have Adobe Acrobat on your computer. Once Adobe is installed, return to Step 1).

STEP 1 - Computer Password information (IMPORTANT: print this document to record your UTK usernames/passwords)
STEP 2 - Create a Windows Password (we strongly suggest you create a windows password to protect your computer information)
STEP 3 - Apply Windows Updates

Software Installation

STEP 4 - Installing Antivirus Software (Note: If you currently have antivirus, either purchased or company-installed, skip this step)
STEP 5 - Microsoft Office 2010 (Note:  If you do not have an Office product, please contact the UT Computer Store (865-974-2930 or email uccs@tennessee.edu) to purchase a highly discounted copy of Office 2010 Professional Plus or higher.)
STEP 6 - Spybot
STEP 7 - Ad-Aware
Step 8 - MalwareBytes
STEP 9 - JMP
STEP 10 - Load the latest free version of the Reader from Adobe Acrobat
STEP 11 - UT Network Setup

YOU ARE FINISHED! Now that you have completed all the setup steps above, please email us at cbahelp@utk.edu so that we are aware of your success. In the subject line, put "PROMBA set up complete." In the body, put your name and email address so that we can contact you if necessary. CONGRATULATIONS!
