Master in Statistics - Introduction

The Department of Statistics, Operations and Management Science, a unit of the College of Business Administration, encourages strong applications for the M.S. degree program specializing in business and industrial statistics. The College of Business has earned international recognition for executive education courses that attract managers and engineers to learn how statistics can be used to improve processes.

Statistics students profit from this outreach activity by interacting with people in industry and being exposed to important real-world problems in the classroom and to enhance internship and employment opportunities.

Your degree in statistics will open the door to a variety of career choices. Our graduates work in diverse fields for many different companies, and routinely report better-than-average starting salaries. In addition, many report substantial pay increases during or after their first year of employment. 

Recent students in the last two to four years have typical starting salaries in the $60,000 to $80,000 range. Sample companies and government agencies of past students include:

Working professionals are invited to check into our newest program . . .

 Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistical Strategies 

This for-credit program consists of successful completion of four, separate 3-semester hour credit courses. Each course is fully approved for graduate credit and can count toward UT's Masters in Statistics or towards a UT minor in Statistics.

Our certificate program is customized to meet your individual needs. If you wish, you can take all of your classes without coming to Knoxville.
