College of Business Curriculum
Statisticians work in two broad
areas: the development of statistical tools and the
application of statistics to substantive areas.
Applications include such diverse areas as quality
control in manufacturing; research in engineering,
medicine, and agriculture; survey and forecasting
work for marketing operations and government
agencies; and actuarial work for companies who offer
insurance and pension programs.
Because the collection and analysis of data is found
in all areas of modern society, statisticians find
rewarding careers throughout business, government,
and industry. Some specific career options include
industrial statistician, statistical consultant, and
research methods specialist. Well-paying jobs are
available at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels.
