Thank you for visiting our website.

Exciting changes are occurring in our department and we are happy for the opportunity to share one of the biggest changes with you.

This change, which is also our department's top priority, is the launch of our new masters program in Business Analytics.  As of next year the department will be offering this integrated masters degree.*    This program will equip students not only with the quantitative tools to solve business problems, but also with the knowledge of the business world and with the communication and leadership skills required of business executives.

Dan Dougherty, a program manager at John Deere and a University of Tennessee MBA alumnus sums up the importance of Business Analytics as follows: As the global economy becomes more complex and competitive, businesses can no longer rely on making decisions "from the gut."  The cost of being wrong is too great.  Companies that can leverage business analytics in their decision making will differentiate themselves versus their competition, and employees who bring these skills to the company will be well positioned for distinctive career growth.

We are a unique department.  As part of the College of Business, our faculty has always worked closely with leaders in business and industry.  From these contacts we know of the opportunities and needs in the business world for individuals with technological knowledge as well as business sense.  Our faculty's strengths in applied statistics, business process optimization, data mining, and business intelligence provide a solid foundation for educating students in business analytics.
