JOHORE BAHRU, MALAYSIA
Saturday morning meant a very early departure from the hotel to the airport for our flight to Singapore. The three hour flight, which took us directly over Ho Chi Min City, was smooth and allowed all of us to catch a "Z" or two the help make up for having to check-out of the hotel at 5:45 am that morning.
From the airport in Singapore, we traveled just across the Straight of Johore to the Malaysian town of Johore Bahru where we stayed Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday night most people had a wonderful Chinese dinner at a restaurant in the "duty free zone," which mean that we all paid about $5 each. Sunday was the only tour day of the trip, and a few people chose a jaunt to the Malaysian shore for some down time on the beach, a few people relaxed at the hotel, and the majority of the group traveled by coach to the small fishing village of Kukup located at the very southern tip of Malaysia. The journey to Kukup was a colorful ride through beautiful rubber tree, coffee, and palm plantations. Once we arrived at Kukup, we took an open-air boat ride to a fish farm and saw how they bred fish. We all decided that the pictures from that day are really required to be "scratch-n-sniff" in order to do them justice. We enjoyed a nice seafood lunch, and did a little shopping in the village. The weather was clear and extremely hot! It was an interesting day and memorable look into the country of Malaysia.
