- Sarah Fisher Gardial has been appointed vice provost for faculty affairs at UT Knoxville.
- Theodore Stank has been named interim associate dean for the College of Business Administration.
- Matt Myers has been named interim department head for Marketing and Logistics. July will be a transition month and he will begin August 1.
- Jing Sheng presented two papers at the 2008 CSD&CB (Customer Satisfaction/Dissatisfaction) Conference. One is an empirical paper on "Cultural Differences in Online Satisfaction" and the other is a conceptual paper on "Satisfaction with Online Recommendation Agents." Both were written with Pratibha Dabholkar.

- Tom Mentzer won the Berkman Distinguished Service Award from the Academy of Marketing Science.
- Dave Schumann, as the 2007 Alexander Prize awardee, spoke at this year's university graduate hooding.
- Ph.D. candidate Karen Hood presented her research, "Autonomy in the Consumer Context: A Consideration for Ethical Marketing Decisions," at the poster session of the 2008 Academy of Marketing Society Annual Conference.
- Terry Esper presented his paper (co-authored by Ted Stank and Ph.D. candidate Rod Thomas) entitled, “Exploring the Potential Negative Effects of Time Pressure in Supply Chain Relationships” at the 2008 Academy of Marketing Science Annual Conference.
- Ph.D. candidate Bridget Satinover and associate professor Dan Flint presented their paper, "Struggling for Control: How Members of an Online Community Work Together for Independent Goals” in the Consumer Behavior Track at the 2008 Academy of Marketing Science Annual Conference.
- Ph.D. candidate Jon Kirchoff received a $2,500 scholarship from the Institute for Supply Management to support his attendance at the IFPSM 2008 Summer School in Salzburg, Austria.
- Dave Schumann has been named the inaugural director of the Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center. Schumann's task is to create a functional center to aid both newly hired and veteran UT professors in their quest to become the best classroom teachers possible.
- Tom Mentzer has been named one of the initial Chancellor's Professors effective next academic year. The designation carries with it a one-year research and the individuals who hold this designation will do so indefinitely. The Chancellor’s Professors will meet regularly to advise the Provost, Vice Chancellor for Research, and Chancellor on matters of concern to the campus. They will also participate in the Chancellor’s Professor Faculty Lecture Series to take place at regular intervals during the academic year.

- Dave Schumann received the "Outstanding Reviewer Award" for the Journal of Advertising, representing his editorial review board service this past year.
- Ayman Omar won the John R. Moore Graduate Teaching Award.
- Funda Sahin was awarded the Reagan Faculty Scholar title.
- Tom Mentzer was awarded the Richard D. Sanders award for Leadership in Executive Education.
- Leff Bonney was a John R. Moore Graduate Teaching Award finalist.
- Diane Mollenkopf won the Allen H. Keally Outstanding Teacher Award.
- Ted Stank was a Ray and Joan Myatt Outstanding Teaching, Research and Service Award finalist.
- Matt Myers was a Southern-Peters Outstanding Researcher Award finalist.
- Sujan Dan received the 2008 Product Development and Management Association dissertation award.
- Tom Mentzer and Mark Moon were two of four experts featured by the Division Finance Forum for their Forecasting Expert Speaker Series.

- Dave Schumann received the Society for Consumer Psychology's Inaugural Distinguished Service Award at the Society's Annual Winter Conference in New Orleans.
- Ted Stank was honored as the Order of Omega’s faculty member for the month of February.

- Recently hired incoming faculty member Sujan Dan won the 2007 ISBM Business Marketing Doctoral Support Award Competition for his dissertation program. The award comes with a $7,500.00 prize to be applied to his research, access to the ISBM member companies and unlimited use of databases held by or accessible to the ISBM, as needed.
- Jennifer Newman earned the UT Lighting the Way supervisor’s certificate for level I.
- Tamara Farley was awarded the University's Send Roses Award. She was recognized as being exemplary in customer service and exceptionally courteous.
- The January 18th Outreach supplement of the Knoxville News Sentinel recognized
Jim Foggin, Paul Dittmann, and Mary and Brady Holcomb for their work optimizing Brunswick’s distribution network. - Dr. John T. (Tom) Mentzer, Bruce Chair of Excellence, Dr. J. Paul Dittmann, former Whirlpool executive and the Director of Corporate Partnership and Reuben Slone, Executive Vice-President for OfficeMax, have signed a contract with Harvard Business Review to write a book---the working title is “Improving Shareholder Value With Your Supply Chain.”

- Sujan Dan has just accepted our offer to join us as an Assistant Professor of Marketing effective August 1, 2008.
- Sloan, Mentzer, Dittmann, article was featured in SC Digest regarding their article, “Are You the Weakest Link in Your Supply Chain? – published by Harvard Business Review & authored by Reuben Slone (exec VP of Supply Chain at OfficeMax); Dr. John Mentzer (University of Tennessee), and J. Paul Dittmann, (formerly of Whirlpool and now also at the University of Tennessee). When SC Digest did their ERP versus Best-of-Breed supply chain software reports they spoke with dozens of people on the topic, they quoted that Dittmann was easily the most insightful.
- Pratibha Dabholkar’s article in the Journal of Retailing, 2007, with Willemijn van Dolen and Ko de Ruyter, “Satisfaction with Online Commercial Group Chat: The Influence of Perceived Technology Attributes, Chat Group Characteristics, and Advisor Communication Style,” has been translated and published in the French journal RAM (Recherche et Applications en Marketing) Volume 22, Issue 3 (2007) pages 83-112.
- Mark Moon was nominated for the Chancellor’s Teaching Award.
- Dick Reizenstein was awarded the 2007 PEMBA Outstanding Faculty Award.

- Xiaojing Sheng’s paper, “Recommendation Agents Acceptance and Continued Use: The Role of Prior Use,”
was selected as the best paper in her track of the 2007 Society for Marketing Advances Annual Conference in San Antonio. - Diane Mollenkopf served as lead author on the article “Managing Internet Product Returns: A Focus on Effective Service Management,” which was nominated by the Decision Sciences Institute for best paper of the year.
- Supply Chain Strategy and Management Forum was held November 5 – 7.
- Dr. Paul Dittmann was interviewed by Mitch McDonald in DC Velocity Magazine, November 2007 issue in an article entitled, “Campus Crusade”.
- Dr. Ted Stank was quoted in Industry Week Magazine in an article entitled, “The Great Supply Chain Robbery”, by Jonathan Katz. November 2007 issue, pgs. 38 – 41.
- U.S. News and World Report ranked the UTK College of Business Administration’s Supply Chain Management /Logistics program #8 in the nation. Quoted in Business TN November 07 issue.
- Dr. Ken Kahn’s manuscript entitled, “Functional, Multifunction, and Cross-Functional Considerations for
Marketing Management”, was accepted by the Journal of Marketing theory and Practice. - Dr. Pratibha Dabholkar’s paper, “The role of customer contact employees as external customers: A

- UT Logistics was recognized from CSCMP as second strongest publisher of supply chain articles.
- Diane Mollenkopf was highlighted by NEWS SENTINEL and KNOXNEWS.COM for her international experiences with students this past summer when she taught a course in Australia. October 8, 2007, entitled, “More Students Learning Overseas”.
- Ted Stank was interviewed as an expert for the article “Easy Access: Central Location, Transportation Links Make Knoxville Area a Hot Choice for Companies” which appeared in the NEWS SENTIAL and KNOXNEWS.COM.
- PHD student, Leff Bonney accepted a faculty position at Florida State University.
- Rod Thomas’ paper "Exploring the Effects of Total Trust Asymmetry in Interfirm Supply Chain
Relationships" has been selected as the best paper in the Young Researchers track of the 2007 CSCMP
Educator's Conference in Philadelphia.
Ted Stank was interviewed for a 07 – 08 Logistics Career Guide offered as a supplement to the Journal of Commerce and Traffic World, entitled, “Education on Demand”. - Diane Mollenkopf and Mike West were given word of mouth recognition by students. Dean Jan Williams
and Associate Dean Sarah Gardial had dinner with the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, a group of about
25 undergrads who serve as liaisons between the Dean’s office and the students. Over dinner, Sarah
asked the students at her table with which teachers they were most impressed. These two were
mentioned. - Cindy Raines was recognized in Cambridge Who’s Who Among Executives and Professional Women.
- Scott Ferguson, our current Gochberg scholar with the DSI Forums, placed second in the APICS Educational and Research Foundation 2007 Donald Fogarty International Student Paper Competition.

- The Sales Forecasting Forum hosted fifty participants from twenty different companies for some stimulating dialogue about the future of forecasting.
- Lisa Murray was honored for completing a 64 hour supervisor training program, “UT Leader: Lighting the Way.”
- Tom Mentzer was quoted by the SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT REVIEW on the value of an executive education.
- Paul Dittmann was highlighted in the WORLD TRADE MAGAZINE in an article called WORLD TRADE’S FABULOUS 50 +1; which recognized him for his work in managing the Supply Chain Strategy and Management Forum and bringing researchers and industry professionals together to Collaborate around industry issues.
- In a Marketing 456 class they offer free advice in Amy Nolan’s monthly letter (GREATER KNOXVILLE BUSINESS JOURNAL AND KNOXBUSINESSJOURNAL.COM).

- Ken Kahn had accepted a position as Avrum and Joyce Gray Director of Purdue’s Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship for January. The center is known for their research.
- Dianne Marshall organized the first Logistics Job Fair for undergraduates. The fair was a huge success and great opportunity for logistic majors to meet employers. The event is on its way to become an annual event.

This honor recognizes outstanding contribution to logistics literature and is awarded to recognize individuals whose published books and papers have improved and increased the general body of logistics knowledge.
