Dr. Funda Sahin is an Associate Professor of Logistics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Prior to joining the UT faculty in August 2002, Dr. Sahin earned her Ph.D. in operations management from the Mays Business School, Texas A&M University. She also holds an MBA from Texas A&M University and a BA in accounting and finance from Marmara University, Istanbul-Turkey. Her teaching and research interests are in operations and supply chain management, logistics and transportation, e-Business, inventory planning and control, and information intensive supply chain management. Her publications have appeared in Decision Sciences, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Logistics and Production & Inventory Management Journal.She is a frequent presenter at national and international meetings of the DSI, INFORMS, POMS, APICS and CSCMP (formerly known as CLM) professional societies.
While at Texas A&M University, she was a research associate for the Information Systems Consortium for Supply Chain Integration, Thomas A. Read Center, Texas A&M University. In this role, Dr. Sahin conducted applied research on distribution network optimization and the distributor’s role as a data manager. She also served as a research associate studying the MRE supply chain for the Combat Rations Network under the Department of Defense. In 1999, Dr. Sahin received international recognition for her research when she was awarded first place in the APICS Donald Fogarty International Graduate Student Paper Competition. In 2002, she was a Decision Sciences Institute dissertation competition finalist for her study of information sharing and coordination in supply chains. She also received competitive research awards at the college and university level receiving the 2002 Dean’s Award for outstanding research by a graduate student and the Annual Women’s Faculty Network research award. In 2003, the University of Tennessee-Student Chapter of CSCMP recognized Dr. Sahin by presenting her with a special award “Honoring Women in Logistics” for her achievements and demonstration of excellence in the field of logistics and transportation. She has held memberships in the following societies: DSI, APICS, POMS, CLM and INFORMS.
