Welcome to the Department of Marketing and Logistics at the University of Tennessee. Our programs are ranked among the best in the nation by US News and World Report, Business Week and Supply Chain Management Review. As frontrunners of demand and supply integration, we pride ourselves on our commitment to theoretically-based, practically applied business research. This is most evident in our Demand-Supply Integration Forums, three strategic think tanks that bring our faculty together with executives from some of the world’s most progressive companies.
These forums provide our students with the opportunity to collaborate with real world business before leaving the classroom. They offer real-time challenges and internship opportunities as well as research direction. This relationship gives students a conceptual advantage. They enter the workforce ready to partner demand management alongside supply chain management.
Our graduates are prepared to enter the global market. Extending beyond university initiatives, we are seriously committed to diversity and globalism. From department faculty to course curriculum and study-abroad programs, we strive to reflect the ever changing world market. We even house the director of Global Business Initiatives in our department. He is one of twenty-three faculty and five staff devoted to giving our students the best education possible. That commitment means the department remains dynamic, constantly striving toward greater excellence in teaching, research and service.
Our department’s dedication to deliver quality instruction is manifest in recent College of Business and University teaching awards. In addition we have raised the bar for acceptable instruction. Outside the usual university evaluation process, each faculty member’s teaching is observed and reviewed by peers. Any doctoral student who teaches must complete a semester-long course in preparation for the classroom. We want to be sure our students at the undergraduate, graduate and executive level are getting the best value for their investment.
Part of providing quality instruction is remaining on the forefront of research in our disciplines. You will notice our department’s commitment to research through the number of publications produced by faculty and Ph.D. students each year. Beyond that, several faculty members serve as editor or part of an editing team for periodicals or books. Our diligence has been recognized and supported with five chair or professorship positions devoted to funding further research projects.
