One of the most rewarding parts of my job is working with students to assist them in making career decisions. I began building relationships in the community in 1997. Companies had a need for an intern while the student needed the practical application to make a career decision. The internship program has grown in the Human Resource field as well as the management area. Some of these internships lead to full-time jobs and also the alumni give back to the program through hiring interns and entry-level students from the program. I am faculty advisor for UT-Society of Human Resource Management(UT-SHRM). The student chapter is an organization that furthers the knowledge and growth of Human Resources through speakers, panels, and SHRM games. The students also participate in volunteer activities. Each year we put together over 100 shoeboxes through Operation Christmas Child, that go all over the world. The students also help with the set-up of Fantasy of Trees, a benefit for Children’s Hospital. The students understand how to give back to the community buy volunteering and getting involved.
