Dr. Charles Noon joined the faculty in 1987. His research involves modeling the routing and scheduling of transportation systems and the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for decision support. His teaching interests include Integer Programming, Network Flows, and Operations Management.
Dr. Noon is a Professor of the Management Science Program in the Department of Management. He joined the faculty in the fall of 1987 after completing his Ph.D. in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. He holds B.S. and M.Eng . degrees in Industrial Engineering from the University of Louisville .
Dr. Noon teaches in the areas of modeling and decision analysis in a number of degree programs. His research involves logistics modeling and the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for decision support. His papers in these areas have appeared in Operations Research , Transportation Science , European Journal of Operational Research , INFOR , and Journal of the Operational Research Society . In addition, he has published several Interfaces articles in the area of applications of discrete optimization to commercial real estate. As a result of his consulting work in this area, Dr. Noon was a finalist in the 1986 Franz Edelmen Competition for the application of Management Science.
UT Activities and Honors
Dr. Noon was the recipient of the 2000 Gregory Dobbins Outstanding Teaching and Research Award and 1999 Outstanding Teacher Award, Physician's Executive MBA Program, from the UT College of Business Administration and in 1992 the Outstanding Young Engineer Award from his alma-mater, the University of Louisville. In addition, Dr. Noon was appointed a UT College of Business Administration Stokely Scholar for the period 1995-97.
He is married and has three young children ages 3, 7 and 9. He enjoys playing soccer and squash and also coaches chess at his children's school.
