The Computational Operations Analysis Laboratory (COAL) is maintained by the Management Science Program. It consists of a cluster of SUN workstations that are networked and ethernet-connected, including two Sparc 5s and a Sparc 2. In addition to a complete set of native language programming compilers, the lab is also equipped with state-of-the-art math programming software. Geographic Information System (GIS) software is also available to support spatial analysis and transportation modeling.
The UT Computing Center offers a network of mainframe computers which are available and can be accessed through leased-line and dial-up terminals. The network consists of an IBM 3090, an IBM 3081, two IBM 4245's, a cluster of two VAX 8650's, a VAX 8700 and a cluster of SUN workstations. There are 24 remote sites with an assortment of printers, terminals and personal computers to access the network. The University of Tennessee Computing Center (UTCC) has access to BITNET, TELNET, SURANET and several other national networks. UTCC is also a smart node site for the Cornell supercomputer. The College of Business Administration has its own personal computer labs. There are approximately 65 IBM PC's and XT's networked into dot matrix and laser printers. There is also a graphics lab and projection capability for teaching and research.
The University's $27 million John C. Hodges Library , at 350,000 square feet, is the largest library in Tennessee. It is conveniently located in the center of campus, directly across the street from the College of Business Administration. In addition to housing several microcomputer labs, the library is equipped with 400 built-in graduate student study carrels. As the premier research library in the state, it seeks to acquire and make accessible all forms of recorded information supporting the programs on the Knoxville campus. The library offers top-notch reference, information, and audiovisual services including public online catalog databases, interlibrary loans, and 150 a-v carrels with video, audio, and slide capability. Hodges Library contains most of the major journals used in Management Science, such as Management Science , Operations Research , Mathematical Programming , IIE Transactions , Computers and Operations Research , and Stochastic Processes and Their Applications . |
