Q. What student to faculty ratio does the program aim for?
A. We aim for a 5:1 ratio.
Q. How many classes do students typically take in their first two years?
A. Students in our program typically take three classes per semester for the first two years (please refer to the curriculum for more information).
Q. How long does the graduate program take?
A. The average time to complete the graduate program is 5 years.
Q. What types of assistantships are available?
A. Both research and teaching assistantships are available for students.
Q. Are professors actively involved in research?
A. Yes, all of our faculty are actively involved in research projects.
Q. How involved are the students in research?
A. Students work side by side with faculty on research projects as well as completing research on their own.
Q. Will I be required to do an internship?
A. It is not required, but encouraged. However, all students have the opportunity to do applied work.
Q. Do students attend or present research at professional conferences?
A. Yes! Our students present research at many professional conferences every year including the SIOP conference.
Q. Do students publish research in professional and scientific journals?
A. Yes, it is expected that all students are involved in publishable research.
Q. Will I have an on-campus office?
A. All students in our program are supplied with offices that are equipped with computers as needed.

Q. What is a typical monthly rent payment in Knoxville area?
A. For a 1-bedroom apartment in Knoxville, rents can range from $300 to $650. Visit University Housing for campus housing and http://www.knoxapartments.com/ for off-campus housing.
Q. Do I need to have a car?
A. No, there is plenty of housing within walking distance.
Q. Do I have to pay tuition? Do I pay the out-of-state resident tuition rates?
A. All students in our program, both in-state and out-of-state, receive full tuition waivers. However, students are required to pay university fees (technology, health, etc.).
Q. Do I receive any health care coverage?
A. Every graduate student will automatically be enrolled in a health insurance program and have 100% of the premium for the student paid by the university.
Admissions
Q. How do I apply? What is considered a complete application?
A. A complete application includes
1. one official transcript from each institution previously attended
2. an official report score from the Graduate Record Examinations verbal and quantitative tests
3. a completed Graduate Application for Admission (be sure to apply for a major in industrial and organizational psychology). Online submission is preferred.
4. a completed application to the I/O Psychology program. Send this directly to the I/O Psychology Program.
5. three letters of recommendation.
Q. When should I apply to The University of Tennessee doctoral I/O Psychology program?
A. The application deadline is February 1. Submit your application as early as possible to ensure your application is complete before the deadline.
