Student Identification Number
UT-Knoxville requires assignment of an individual student number for internal identification of each student's record. The University began using the social security number (SSN) as the student identification number prior to January 1, 1975; therefore, federal law allows continued use of this number. However, if a student does not desire to use the SSN, notification to the University must be made at the time of application for admission. (NOTE: A letter requesting an identification number must accompany the Graduate School application - not the I/O Psychology Program application.) A student identification number will then be assigned. Student identification numbers, whether SSN's or assigned numbers, are used administratively within the University only and are not given to third parties without expressed consent of the student.
