Global Routes
Global Routes, a tax-exempt non-profit, is a non-governmental, non-sectarian organization committed to strengthening our global community through voluntary work overseas. To this end, we design foreign exchange programs based on community service, bringing people with different world views together.
College students extend themselves by living and working with people in small, rural communities throughout the world. Appropriate grassroots community development and homestays in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the United States are at the core of these experiences. Students work side by side with their host families on projects selected by the community, such as constructing a school, clinic or community center, teaching local children, or reforesting surrounding areas. Experiential learning covers such areas as cultural sensitivity, international development, government, politics, history, language, geology, biology, ecology, and of course, oneself. Students reflect on their own lives and situations as they become immersed in the life of their host community. Whether they teach English in Asia, build a school in Ecuador, or do volunteer work in Thailand - to name a few possibilities - they are actively engaged in expanding their horizons. Personal growth, and, through that, cross-cultural understanding, is inevitable. The college-level internship program focuses on developing the individual’s sense of self-sufficiency. While interns receive support from their in-country director and fellow interns, they spend the majority of each week living somewhat independently in their host villages where they teach in local schools. Currently, we offer voluntary work overseas programs for college students who seek volunteer work in Thailand, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ghana, Kenya, or St. Lucia.

International Labor Organization
The Internship Program was introduced into the ILO in 1990. Each year the Office receives approximately 130 under-graduate or post-graduate students for professional work and specialized secondary and bilingual secretary school students for secretarial work. The internship program is open to under-graduate, graduate or post-graduate students undertaking advanced studies in a technical field of interest to the ILO such as employment, economics and statistics, labour law and labour relations, social security and conditions of work, management development, small industry development, occupational safety and health, vocational rehabilitation, vocational training, gender and development studies, elimination of child labour, social protection, information technology, human resources, financial and budget studies. Interns gain practical work experience from the ILO which is directly related to their academic specialization. By exposing such individuals to the work of the ILO, we can enhance their knowledge on international policies and standards, and in particular on the promotion of social justice and decent work for all. Their potential to contribute to the ILO and its mandate during the internship and their future professional activities is significant. Check the web site for deadlines and details.

Whilst the organization remains relatively unknown to the general public, ITU’s work over more than one hundred years has helped create a global communications network which now integrates a huge range of technologies, yet remains one of the most reliable man-made systems ever developed. The ITU runs a non-remunerated internship programme for students who wish to improve their skills and gain experience working in an international environment. This program is open to all undergraduate and graduate students from ITU's 189 Member States. Candidates are selected in response to specific needs identified within ITU departments. Applications have to be accompanied by a completed personal history form (follow the links below to download a blank form), and should be sent to the following address: International Telecommunication Union

Internships International
Internships International offers non-credit granting internships in an internship designed by you, the intern. This organization works with contacts at one of many international sites. Internships generally last about eight weeks (some interns have extended their stay) and while they are all non-paying, there are often opportunities to "moonlight" on the side. During the application process, the Internships International staff works with you to figure out the internship that best fits your needs. They claim they do not have a file box of internships — your internship is found specifically for you based on your needs and qualifications. This program is primarily for students or recent college graduates who want to expand their resume in order to become more competitive in the academic or professional world. The international program director will find you your internship, provide you with a list of possible housing sources, visit your internship before your internship starts and then be in contact with you and your boss within the first month of your internship.
