Finance Ph.D. Concentration Application Checklist

NOTE:   You must submit two different applications--one to the Graduate School, and one to the College of Business.  Be sure to indicate on your College of Business application that you intend to concentrate in Finance.  The Finance Department will make an admission recommendation to the Graduate School, and the Graduate School will then grant or deny admission based on our recommendation, and whether or not you meet the Graduate School's admission requirements.

  1. Complete the Graduate School Application (either download the pdf and mail directly to the Graduate School or complete it online). International students must complete the application by February 1 of the enrolling year.

  2. Arrange to have submitted to the Graduate School one copy of your official transcript from each institution attended, including all undergraduate and graduate work.  These must be submitted by the institution utilizing the transcript release form in the downloadable materials. You cannot send copies (even notarized copies) of your transcripts to the Graduate School yourself.  They must come from your institution(s).

  3. International students must have ETS submit an official TOEFL score to the Graduate School.

  4. Have ETS submit an official GMAT score to the College of Business.

  5. Pay $35 fee to the Graduate School.  **This fee cannot be waived.

  6. Review PhD application instructions for the College of Business (download PhD application instructions). Then complete the College of Business Ph.D. application (down load PhdD application)  and submit to the College of Business.

  7. Submit 4 references to the College of Business.

  8. Complete the optional Application for Graduate Assistantship.

Your application cannot be processed until all of these steps have been completed.  Note also, that the Graduate School will not process your application until transcripts and GRE scores have been received.

Additional information for international students

Although you may be admitted, the Graduate School cannot issue an I-20 or IAP-66 until you complete an International Applicant Financial Statement.  This statement requires documentation showing that you can cover your expenses for 12 months while you are in the U.S.  This form will be mailed to you by the Graduate School after you submit your application.  Or, you may download it here or from the Graduate School's website.   Be sure to check the Graduate School's information for international applicants for other important information.
