 UT Knoxville’s executive-level MBA programs for working professionals rank among the world’s best, according to the 2010 rankings by Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal. Of the more than 700 executive MBA programs available worldwide, the Financial Times ranked 100 programs and the Wall Street Journal ranked 56 programs.

Department of Accounting and Information Management Recognizes Outstanding Donors, Students, Faculty, and Staff

On October 25, the University of Tennessee’s Department of Accounting and Information Management (AIM) hosted its annual Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Honors Banquet in recognition of accounting program students, faculty, staff, and donors. The evening commenced with an introduction from the BAP Alpha Lambda Chapter President Rachel Oakley.

UT MBA Marketing Students Visit Dallas for Extended-Campus Shopper Marketing Experience
Many of the marketing concentration Full-Time MBA students at the UT Knoxville recently packed up and headed for Dallas, Texas. Their mission: to see firsthand how Frito-Lay’s SMART [Shopper Marketing and Retail Testing] Learning Center generates and applies shopper insights, and how an agency, specifically CROSSMARK, operates at the front lines of consumer goods in-store execution.
Most of the marketing concentration MBA students are part of a major transformation in the College of Business Administration in which the focus of the marketing education and research is turning toward shopper marketing, a discipline nothing short of the tip of the spear in consumer goods marketing, sales, and retailing.

SunTrust Foundation Gifts $25K to UT Business School
The SunTrust Foundation has gifted $25,000 to the College of Business Administration Department of Finance Enrichment Fund at UT Knoxville.
"The SunTrust Foundation has been a long-time and an extremely valued partner of the college and the Department of Finance," said Jim Wansley, Clayton Homes Chair of Excellence and head of UT's Department of Finance. "This gift will allow the finance department to maintain and enhance support of students and faculty."

A Student’s Reflections on the 2010 First Tennessee Foundation MBA Symposium - by Brent Freeman
“Are you a leader who builds a clock, or are you a leader that tells time?” Some quotes stay with you for a second, maybe even a day or two, but only a select few will be with you for a lifetime. I had the privilege of learning life-changing leadership lessons from one of the great business leaders and humanitarians in America, Chairman, President and CEO of The Procter & Gamble Company, Bob McDonald.
As I sat in a full auditorium at the University of Tennessee Full-Time MBA Program’s Third Annual First Tennessee Foundation Symposium, I was very intrigued by the question of whether I was a leader who builds a clock or one who tells time.

Faculty Spotlight
Dr. Kenneth “Ken” Gilbert is the Ralph and Janet Heath Professor of Business and head of the college’s Department of Statistics, Operations, and Management Science. Gilbert’s current academic passion is the department’s new program in business analytics that the College of Business Administration has launched as one of its strategic initiatives. Gilbert joined UT in 1981 after five years of working for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) developing computer models used for scheduling the TVA reservoir system. Before joining TVA, he completed a Ph.D. in management science and M.S. in mathematics from UT, and a B.A. in mathematics from Berea College. He is a veteran of the United States Army.

College of Business Administration alumna Jennifer Oswalt has numerous years of experience in the financial services industry. As the managing director of United Capital Financial Advisors, LLC, she manages United Capital's family office services that are provided to high net worth individuals and families. Such services include consolidated performance reporting, bill payment and budget reporting, preparation of personal financial statements, and impromptu analysis on a wide variety of financial and planning matters. Additionally, Oswalt serves as a wealth adviser to many of the company’s traditional wealth management clients.

Student Spotlight
Memphis, Tennessee, native Kaliv Parker is majoring in finance in the College of Business Administration. However, in addition to his interest in finance, Parker has an entrepreneurial spirit that has led him to many successful pursuits during his collegiate experience. An active and accomplished student, Parker has interned for multiple companies including Nissan North America, Inc., where he was able to utilize the skills he learned in the classroom to build actual financial models. Parker and his business partner, Aeron Glover (a junior majoring in industrial engineering), developed HowsTheLiving.com.
