Student Spotlight: Megan Bethmann
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Business Administration is fortunate to count many of the university’s best and brightest among its students. One of them is Megan Bethmann, who will soon graduate from the Master of Accountancy program.
During her undergraduate study, Megan was an active member of Beta Alpha Psi, the professional international accounting organization, and Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity. She gained experience in her field by interning for Alcoa Inc. as a financial analyst as well as for Burkhart and Company as a professional staff intern. Additionally, Megan supported her fellow students by tutoring in accounting and math while maintaining her position on the dean’s list.
In addition to her academic involvement, Megan has been incredibly active in both the campus and local community. She joined her high school alma mater, Berean Christian High School, as head coach of the school’s swim team for two seasons during her junior and senior year at UT. She also participated her freshman year as a member of the Lady Vols Rowing Team. Her senior honors project involved developing a user manual to create an access database to manage a clothing inventory system. Along with her degree in accounting, Megan also has a minor in mathematics and a collateral in finance.
After graduating summa cum laude from the undergraduate program in 2008, Megan continued her education at UT in the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program. She is a member of the nine-person MAcc Student Advisory Council, voicing concerns and opinions of the MAcc class as a whole. Upon graduation from the MAcc program in June, 2009, Megan is getting married and moving to Raleigh, NC, where her fiancée is attending NC State for his doctoral degree in nuclear engineering. She work towards becoming a CPA in North Carolina and begin her career at Williams Overman Pierce, a local tax firm in Raleigh.
