UT Alum Earns Prestigious Aerospace Honor
UT Knoxville/College of Business Administration Aerospace & Defense MBA alumnus Tim Gray earned the prestigious AVIATION WEEK Laureate Award for process improvements at Hill Air Force Base. The Laureate Awards, which were given at a ceremony held March 17 in Washington, D.C., honor individuals, groups and organizations that have significantly advanced aerospace commerce and technology in the previous year.

U.S. Cellular CEO John E. Rooney Visits University of Tennessee MBA Program
John E. “Jack” Rooney, president and CEO of U.S. Cellular, and Myra Kruger, founder of Esler Kruger and co-author of the book “The Pursuit of Something Better,” served as guest lecturers at the University of Tennessee Full-time MBA program on Tuesday, March 30. Their presentation to University of Tennessee MBA students and faculty, local U.S. Cellular leaders and other guests focused on ethics, leadership and business transformation as well as “The Pursuit of Something Better,” which chronicles the success of U.S. Cellular under Rooney’s 10-year term as CEO.

UT Hosts Student Human Resource Management Conference and Games
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the College of Business Administration hosted the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Southeast Regional Student Conference and the “Jeopardy”-style Human Resources Games in April.The two-day event began on Friday, April 9, in the James A. Haslam II Business Building, with the games beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Students from more than 25 colleges and universities faced off to answer “Jeopardy”-style questions about human resources.

 Two UT College of Business Administration alums were inducted into the 2010 Junior Achievement of East Tennessee's Business Hall of Fame on April 8 at the Knoxville Marriott, William "Billy" Carroll Jr., president and CEO of SmartBank, and Tim Williams, co-founder and CEO of 21st Mortgage Corp.

Alumni Spotlight
UT College of Business Administration alumnus Dr. Thom E. Lobe is the founder and medical director of Beneveda Medical Group in Beverly Hills, California. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1971 from George Washington University before attending medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, graduating cum laude in 1975 with special honors in pediatrics. During medical school, Lobe trained with the former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, M.D. and with leading physicians at Harvard and Johns Hopkins Medical Schools.

UT College of Business Administration student Paula Wojtkowski shares a unique perspective with her Executive Master of Business Administration class. In addition to serving in the U.S. Navy for six years, Wojtkowski has over 10 years of professional experience working with Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel in Cherokee, North Carolina. In 1996, Wojtkowski joined the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians as the political appointee executive secretary as part of the office of the principal chief.
