"If you want practical solutions and practical research applied to real-world practical issues, UT’s Global Supply Chain Institute is the place to be," said J. Paul Dittmann, institute director.

UT saw the need to create a comprehensive resource to coordinate its diverse global supply chain initiatives and leverage the synergies among them across the college, university, industry, and international educational partners.

"Our new Global Supply Chain Institute provides a comprehensive source 'of all information supply chain' to our outside constituencies," said Matt Myers, associate dean of executive education.

The institute's global initiatives touch all four corners of the world through the institute’s industry partners, educational affiliations, and global forums. "This provides unsurpassed networking and benchmarking opportunities for our corporate partners and grounds our cutting-edge research in reality," continued Dittmann.

UT's Global Supply Chain Institute, housed in the college's Center for Executive Education, embraces the following supply chain programs and initiatives:

  • Four global and domestic industry forums, currently affiliated with more than 50 sponsoring organizations and partner universities in Europe, Latin America, and Asia
  • A unique one-year Global Supply Chain Executive MBA program, launching 2013
  • Supply-chain focused non-degree short courses and certifications
  • Undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. supply chain areas of educational focus
  • Worldwide industry partnerships
  • Cutting-edge supply chain research
  • Supply chain organizational audits
  • Award-winning faculty
  • Global advisory board

"UT consistently has delivered world renowned supply chain expertise to undergraduate and graduate students and executives worldwide," said Dittmann. "Our alumni run many of the world's most prominent supply chains, and industry leaders look to us for the most knowledgeable supply chain talent."

Some of these alumni have joined the institute's new Global Supply Chain Institute Advisory Board. Consisting of up to 30 vice president-level supply chain executives worldwide, the advisory board will influence the global and US-based supply chain programs at UT Knoxville, discuss the latest supply chain trends, and provide a valuable networking venue for all participants.

The board will meet quarterly through a web conference, thereby minimizing members' time commitment and eliminating all travel expense. The industries represented on the board cut across many fields including office products, online services, technology, transportation, aerospace and defense, apparel, dining, and pharmaceuticals,—among others.

The inaugural session will be May 31, 2011.
