College of Business Administration Alumnus Visits Campus, Featured in
UT Accomplished Alumni Program
University of Tennessee alumnus Philip C. Jacobs, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Service Corporation International, received an Accomplished Alumnus award from the university while on campus March 9. The award program is coordinated by the UT Office of Alumni Affairs.
Jacobs holds a B.S. in finance from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He has more than 23 years of experience in retailing and marketing communications, including serving as CMO and other management roles at several of the nation’s top advertising agencies, as well as client-side positions.
Jacobs joined Service Corporation International (SCI) in 2007 as CMO to direct the strategic marketing development for SCI’s North American network of funeral homes and cemeteries. In this role, he leads the company’s effort to grow sales and margins by enhancing SCI’s brand identity, generating pre-need sales, improving customer satisfaction, and ensuring that products and services at all locations are specifically designed and properly communicated for the needs of their respective communities. Jacobs is also an instrument-rated pilot and a well-known speaker at national marketing events.
The Accomplished Alumni program is designed to attract alumni of note to campus to share their success stories. Alumni who are honored through this program spend time on campus teaching students, sharing dialogue with faculty, and engaging with other alumni and friends of the university. A variety of outstanding alumni have been featured in this program including CEOs of major corporations, Olympians, authors, artists, musicians, U.S. ambassadors, and civic leaders.
During Jacob’s visit to campus, he spoke to an international business strategy class, engaged with a group of UT MBA students during lunch, and spoke to Global Leadership Scholar students from the College of Business Administration. Dean Jan R. Williams, Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair, presented Jacobs with the Accomplished Alumni award.
