UT Faculty Member Receives Prestigious Heizer Award

Dave Williams.

David W. Williams, assistant professor of entrepreneurship in the Department of Management in the College of Business Administration, received the 2011 Heizer Doctoral Dissertation Award for best dissertation completed during calendar year 2010. The award is presented by the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management.

“Within our field, winning the Heizer Award is significant,” said Terry Leap, head of the Department of Management. “This global competition is highly competitive. If the quality of the dissertations in the pool is not adequate, the award is not given. Dave’s was the only dissertation honored this year.”

The Heizer Doctoral Dissertation Award in New Enterprise Development recognizes and honors outstanding doctoral research with well-developed implications for practitioners in the area of new enterprise development, particularly with the founding, financing, management, growth, and development of high potential new ventures; venture capital investing; or corporate entrepreneurship. Williams’s dissertation explored the ways in which entrepreneurs think about–and decide–where and when to internationalize their new ventures.
