Alumni Spotlight: Ronald E. Frieson

Ronald E. FriesonRonald E. Frieson is senior vice president, external affairs for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. In his role, Frieson is responsible for marketing, public relations, and government and legislative matters. He recently was featured on NBC’s Today Show for his work with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Frieson currently serves on the policy committee for the National Association of Children’s Hospitals. Prior to this role, Frieson served as interim president and CEO of the Atlanta Urban League, and he is credited with providing needed leadership during a difficult period in the organization’s history.

Most of Frieson’s professional career was spent in the telecommunications industry, retiring as president of Georgia Operations for BellSouth Corporation, where he was responsible for the regulatory, legislative, public policy, and external affairs for the company. Frieson oversaw 18,000 employees in the state as well as the residential and business owners of the 3.5 million access lines in the state.

Frieson owns WineStyles Cascade, a wine retail and gift store, and Landon’s Restaurant, an upscale casual dining establishment. He is the immediate past chair of the American Kidney Fund National Board of Trustees and serves as a board member of SunTrust Bank Atlanta, American Intercontinental University, and Colorado Technical University. His prior board memberships include the Atlanta Police Foundation, Hands on Atlanta, the Atlanta Urban League, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Project. Frieson has generously given of his time to the University of Tennessee Development Council and the UT Knoxville College of Business Administration’s Advisory Council to the Dean. He is an avid supporter of the university, including the Black Cultural Center on the UT Knoxville campus.

In addition to Frieson’s bachelor’s degree in finance from UT, he earned his MBA in information systems from Georgia State University. Frieson also is a graduate of the Leadership Atlanta class of 2002.
