Global Leadership Scholars Experience Life
Across the Pond

GLS class of 2013

The UT College of Business Administration has numerous programs based on students’ special interests. One of its most unique programs, Global Leadership Scholars (GLS), promotes the development of international and intercultural awareness, leadership, personal and professional growth, and responsibility. Through honors classes, seminars in leadership training, international experiences, and extracurricular activities, GLS students work with honors faculty to develop the skills necessary to become future international business leaders.

UT MBA Students Among Team Working for Super Bowl XLV

MBA team to Super BowlTEAM UT, a group of eight graduate and undergraduate students from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, headed to Arlington, Texas, earlier this month to work behind the scenes at Super Bowl XLV, one of the largest one-day mega-sporting events in the world. TEAM UT worked directly with the North Texas-Host Super Bowl XLV Committee on operations and facility event management.

UT's Accounting Programs in Top 25 Among Public Universities

The undergraduate and master's level accounting programs in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Business Administration have been ranked top 25 in the country among public universities, according to the 2010 Public Accounting Report(PAR). Both programs ranked 21st among programs with comparable faculty sizes.

Russell Lamb Establishes Economics Excellence Endowment

Russell LambRussell Lamb, a 1987 UT alumnus, has gifted $25,000 to the Department of Economics in the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to establish the Economics Excellence Endowment.

The endowment will benefit multiple areas including technology, scholarships, assistantships and faculty support. Once established, the fund will remain open to future gifts from those wishing to support the Department of Economics.

UT Supply Chain Program Ranked #2 in the U.S.

Supply Chain DigitalThe College of Business Administration’s supply chain management and logistics program was ranked #2 among all universities across the United States by Supply Chain Digital. The online publication recognized only five academic institutions. According to Supply Chain Digital, the universities that were recognized produce the very best and brightest talent in the supply chain management field.

UT Associate Professor of Logistics Honored by Greater Knoxville Business Journal

Terry EsperTerry Esper, associate professor of logistics in the College of Business Administration, joined the esteemed family of the Greater Knoxville Business Journal's "40 under 40.” The “40 under 40” program, now in its fourth year, annually honors 40 individuals younger than 40 years of age for contributions to their professions and community.

“Joining this incredible group is a real honor,” said Esper. “The Knoxville area has so many amazing professionals. I feel privileged to have been selected.”

Leap Welcomed to UT Business Faculty

Terry LeapThe College of Business Administration welcomes Terry Leap as the new head of its Department of Management. Leap brings almost 33 years of academic experience to UT as chair of the Department of Management at Clemson University and teaching at Clemson, Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge campus), and the University of Iowa.  Leap lectures annually at the University of Siegen in Germany and teaches a graduate course in employment law at the University of Tennessee.

Faculty Spotlight

Bill NeilsonWilliam (Bill) S. Neilson, J. Fred Holly Chair of Excellence, joined the UT College of Business Administration in 2006 after 18 years at Texas A&M. Neilson earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics and economics at Rice University before pursuing his graduate education in economics at the University of California at San Diego. He teaches economics in UT’s executive-level MBA programs as well as doctoral courses in game theory and mathematical economics. In the past, Neilson has taught undergraduate courses in labor and personnel economics.

Alumni Spotlight

Morgan CoxCollierville, Tennessee, native and College of Business Administration alumnus Morgan Cox has a very different job than his alumni. After graduating with honors (with a bachelor’s degree in finance and information management and a master’s in sport studies), Cox joined the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens as the starting snapper for punts and field goals. As a three-year starter as a long-snapper for the UT Vols, he earned a full athletic scholarship  and Academic All-SEC honors and a spot on the Thornton Center’s Honor Roll.

Student Spotlight

Ghazala SharieffPhysician Executive MBA student Dr. Ghazala Sharieff is no stranger to a busy schedule. In addition to the demands of the program, she is the director of pediatric emergency medicine for Palomar-Pomerado Health System in San Diego,California; director of pediatric emergency medicine for California Emergency Physicians; and a professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego. Sharieff was born in India but spent the early years of her childhood (until age 11) in England before moving to the United States where she has citizenship.
