Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Annette L. Ranft
The UT College of Business Administration warmly welcomes Dr. Annette L. Ranft to her new role as associate dean for academic programs and the Reagan Professor of Business. Prior to joining the faculty at UT, Ranft served as the head of the Department of Management at Florida State University. She also has served on the faculties of Wake Forest University and West Virginia University.
Ranft is an active member of the Strategic Management Society, the Academy of Management, and the Southern Management Association. She currently serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Management and is on the editorial review boards of the Academy of Management Review and the Strategic Management Journal. Her research interests are primarily in the areas of knowledge management, strategic leadership, and innovation, particularly in the context of corporate acquisitions. Her research has been published in top journals including, the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science,the Journal of International Business Studies, and the Journal of Management.
Ranft earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Appalachian State University before beginning her career as a high school teacher in Western North Carolina and Georgia. After earning her graduate degree from Georgia Tech, she worked as a systems consultant for AT&T and an account manager at EDS.
Ranft enjoys spending time with her family, especially in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Her husband, Victor, teaches marketing in UT’s College of Business Administration. They have two daughters, Taylor and Connor, a dog, Dusty, and cat, Tip.
