Development Update

Dear Students, Alumni & Friends,

Chip BryantAs the opening of our new business building approaches, we all have a visual reminder of the growth of our college and its programs. To date, we have raised almost $74 million of the $80 million goal in the current campaign. Your generosity will help our students and faculty continue to excel in this increasingly competitive academic and business environment. As state budgets continue to be reduced, private funding has become more important than ever before. The state has funded the bricks and mortar of the new business complex, but it is up to our alumni and friends of the college to fund its technology and programming.

One of the most important ways you can help the college is to consider a gift to the new College of Business Administration Fund. The monies that go into this fund immediately are available to the dean and the college, unlike deferred gifts and endowments. The donations go toward the areas of greatest need as they arise, allowing the college to have flexibility during these times of tight budget constraints. Did you know that only 2 percent of donations to the university are unrestricted?  It is for this reason that our development staff is putting a new focus on annual giving, and we hope everyone will consider a gift to this area. Our Annual Giving and Alumni Relations Coordinator, Meredith Hulette, would be happy to discuss the College Fund for Business Administration with you; you may reach her at 865-974-7392 or mhulette@utk.edu.

This fall, we have a lot of great events planned for alumni and friends. Our annual scholarship reception will be held October 3rd, allowing scholarship recipients and the donors who have provided their scholarships a chance to interact. We will visit Knoxville, Nashville, Richmond, New York City, and Washington, DC for events made possible by the generosity of alumni in those cities.  We hope you will let us know if you live in one of these areas and are interested in attending an event and meeting other alumni from your area.

Come visit us this fall as we celebrate this exciting time in the College of Business Administration. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,
Chip Bryant
