Austin-East High School Partnership
The College of Business Administration is partnering with Austin-East High School’s Academy of Finance and Business. This program is intended to pique high school students’ interest in studying business at the university level and in pursuing business careers. We provide field trips to the university and other experiential opportunities for academy students.
Knoxville Area Urban League (KAUL) Partnership
- With other colleges on campus, we have partnered with the Knoxville Area Urban League’s “Achievers,” program, a program that targets high school students demonstrating academic strength. Our college brings these students to the UT campus for career workshops, exposing them to the different majors and career opportunities that can be pursued at UT. Our first event was fall 2006; we are planning future events that also will draw from Urban League programs in Chattanooga, Nashville, and Memphis.
- A team of full-time MBA students is working with the Knoxville Area Urban League in helping them develop empowerment zones.
- The College of Business Administration is a table sponsor of the annual “Equal Opportunity Awards Gala,” KAUL’s major fundraising initiative each year. The funds raised provide services to over 5,000 individuals in the Knoxville area.
Burlington Library Initiative
The College of Business Administration is one of four colleges in the university working to develop a satellite facility in the Burlington Library in East Knoxville to assist the community with business services. We will provide small business consulting services; personal financial planning services; and other opportunities for our faculty, staff, and students to lend their expertise in benefiting the community.
Dean’s Advisory Council Diversity Fundraising Task Force
The Dean’s Advisory Council is composed of successful business leaders who are UT alumni or friends of the college. The Diversity Task Force is a subset of these leaders who have a specific interest in diversity-related issues. This group will focus on achieving college-wide diversity goals, which include fundraising, professional opportunities, and strategic planning.
Purpose: Members of the Diversity Fundraising Task Force will use their expertise and experience to develop and support the college’s efforts to maintain an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students. They will help recruit and retain faculty, staff, and students and help secure internships and full-time job opportunities for students. The task force will advise the dean, the Dean’s Advisory Council, the college’s executive committee, and the coordinator of diversity initiatives on ways that the college can stay abreast of trends, changes, and developments in the business world.
