865-974-4955 B.S. in Civil Engineering, University of Missouri at Rolla Registered Professional Engineer, Tennessee and Kentucky James Beavers joined the Construction Industry Research and Policy Center in 2004. He is a research professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Tennessee and does consulting work. From 1998 through 2003, Dr. Beavers was deputy director of the Mid-America Earthquake Center at the University of Illinois. He is a former vice president of MS Technology, Inc., Natural and Technological Hazards Services Division (1994-1997), former director of the Center for Natural Phenomena Engineering, Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc. and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (1990-1994), and from 1972 through 1990 he held numerous senior positions with Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc. and its predecessors at the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Dr. Beavers is the editor of the American Society of Civil Engineers Natural Hazards Review Journal, a post he has held since 1998, and he was formerly the editor of the Earthquake Spectra, the professional journal of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute in Oakland, California . He has organized a number of national earthquake conferences and is the author of numerous publications on seismic effects and earthquake engineering standards. |
