KNOXVILLE, TN — Obtaining a job in the management consulting industry at a top-tier firm is about more than just preparing for “case interviews.”   Full-time MBA students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, got a “leg up” on how to break into this competitive field.
November 18 and 19 marked the dates of the MBA program’s 2011 Second Annual Consulting Boot Camp; it was led by Darren Lafreniere, former AT Kearney consultant and owner of Final Round Prep. Lafreniere is a career consultant with Ivey College of Business, Canada’s top-ranked MBA program.
“The boot camp was a great opportunity for students to hone their consulting skills and be exposed to all facets of recruitment,” said Molly Davis, MBA director of career services and alumni relations. The experience provided a full suite of recruiting preparation services for students, including learning about the consulting industry and how to develop a cover letter and resume. Students participated in behavioral interviews, case interviews, networking opportunities, and negotiation training.   Friday’s sessions were theory-based learning; Saturday’s sessions were more hands-on with applied learning.
