JOE CARCELLO, Ernst & Young Professor of Accounting
Joe Carcello, Ernst & Young Professor of Accounting and co-founder and director of research for UT’s Corporate Governance Center, was drawn to university work through his love for teaching. A leading national authority on corporate governance, financial reporting, and auditing committees, Carcello routinely comments on corporate America in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and the Washington Post. Teaching undergraduate, graduate, and executive education courses, Carcello takes pride in ensuring that his courses prepare students for accounting and business professions.
EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING
TERRY ESPER
As assistant professor of logistics, Terry Esper is committed to sharing real and applicable examples with his students. He knows his job is much more than just presenting material; he’s adept at engaging his students by taking a unclear global concept and making it real. Students love the interaction in his classes; they also appreciate the many examples he uses that often involve humorous stories of real-life mistakes he’s made while working in the industry.
TORCHBEARERS
TAYLOR REYNOLDS
Taylor Reynolds is a marketing major from Knoxville. He has served UT in many student organizations, but his most unique and probably most demanding contribution to campus has been ‘in costume.’ For the past two years, Reynolds has portrayed Smokey in as many as 300 appearances including athletic events, pep rallies, mascot competitions, and more. This year, Smokey placed fifth overall in the UCA mascot competition and was named a member of the Capital One Mascot Team. In addition to his role as Smokey, Reynolds has served the student body through several elected positions, most recently as Student Government Association student services director. In his spare time, he has been an orientation leader and an active member of Student Alumni Associates, the Senior Gift Committee, and Mortar Board. Reynolds has represented the university in the community as a member of the Mayor’s Student Advisory Board.
LANCE TAYLOR
Lance Taylor is a marketing and logistics major from Kingston, Tennessee, and has been a student advocate for his four years at UT. Within the College of Business Administration, he has served on several committees to improve the overall student experience, including being president of the College of Business Administration’s Dean’s Student Advisory Council. His leadership in the Ambassador Scholars program as teambuilding and service chair has “turned the program into more than just an organization…we are now a family.” Taylor has been an orientation leader, a First-Year Studies peer mentor, and a participant or leader of several alternative spring break service trips through TeamVOLS.
