Why should I apply for the MAcc Program?
The Tennessee MAcc program is an excellent one, ranked 16th in the
nation by the CPA Personnel Report's 23rd Annual Survey of Accounting
Professors. Typically 90% of the students have jobs comming out of the program (details) and its a great way to ensure that you meet all the CPA education requirements for different states.
How long does it take to complete the MAcc Program?
The MAcc program spans the Fall, Spring, and First session of summer school.
What is involved in applying for the MAcc Program?
The Application to the MAcc program requires a $35 Application fee, a GMAT score, and two letters of recommendation. We prefer applicants to complete the Online Application which may be found here (preferred). Alternatively, Candidates may submit a printed application that can be found here.
When is the application deadline?
The deadline is March 1st (Febuary 1st for international students), but applications are accepted after that on a space available basis.
What should my GMAT score and undergraduate GPA be?
The average GMAT score is 556 and the Average GPA is a 3.5 (overall). Remember, some are higher, some are lower. If in doubt, apply.
What is the normal courseload?
MAcc students take 12 hours in the Fall, 12 in the Spring, and 6 in the First Session of Summer School. Classes always end June 30 for MAcc students

Must I have an undergraduate degree in accounting to get into the MAcc program?
No, graduates of arts and sciences, engineering, business, and other disciplines who combine their undergraduate knowledge with graduate professional training will be well-positioned to meet the changing demands of business and government. Students entering the program should be computer literate and are expected to have completed coursework in principles of accounting, introductory economics, and the Accounting foundation courses (prerequisites shown above).
Can I take courses part time ?
No, all students must start in August and take the full course load each semester.
Can I take courses without being admitted to the program?
No, students must be admitted and enrolled in the program to take classes offered.
What kind of financial support is available for MAcc students?
Departmental Scholarships
The Department of Accounting and Information Management awards scholarships on the basis of academic achievement and professional promise.
Teaching or Research Assistantships
Assistantships provide a full-tuition waiver and a monthly stipend in return for teaching or research service. Assistantships pay $5,000 plus tuition per academic year in return for approximately 10 hours per week of supervised teaching or research work. A GTA would serve as a teaching assistant or research assistant to a faculty member or serve as an assistant on special academic projects within the department.
TSCPA
The Tennessee Society of CPAs also provides scholarships to students who are residents of Tennessee and have completed introductory courses in accounting and/or students majoring in accounting. Details can be found here.
How do I apply for graduate assistantships and scholarships?
To apply for departmental financial assistance, simply check the appropriate boxes on the Program Application. The number of scholarship and assistantships is limited. Applications must be received before March 1 to be considered. To apply for a TSCPA scholarship, check with the department in the Spring semester before you begin the program.
